A Phantom Walk

New beginnings - that's what this weekend's celebration is all about. Now, admittedly, it has been three months since our new beginning, but, all the more, a good time to take a step back, or up, and have a look at where we are.
A Phantom Walk

View of Holyrood Park from the Pentland Hills

I'm not speaking purely metaphorically. Today we went for a hike in the Pentland Hills and got a gorgeous view of Edinburgh, the Firth of Forth and the surrounding area.

The hills start directly south-west of the outskirts of the city. The walk we chose led us around two of the hills and past a few drinking water reservoirs. The guide book calls it "A Phantom Walk", because a modern legend tells of sightings of a solitary figure with a spade that made minor repairs to the trails but always vanished before anyone could try to talk to him. This benevolent phantom has not been seen for a couple of years, but we did see a lot of sheep, also quite a few lambs that must have been born in the last weeks (Lambs! Easter! Yay!) and, as I mentioned, the view of the city was magnificent.

The weather has been getting colder in the last days, and today was no exception, but the temperature was alright for walking, and the clouds were dark but did not shed too much rain.

A bit weird was the military training area that lay next to one of the hills, and even weirder was that we heard shooting sounds and saw red flags warning about military activity - on Easter Sunday!?

Right now an Irish Stew is simmering on the hob, and we'll soon watch the Tatort - no, we haven't left all of our habits behind when moving here!
